Seven injured, three airlifted, following severe crash in Pocahontas County

Pocahontas, IA – Multiple injuries reported following a two vehicle incident on Friday at the intersection of High Way 3 and Highway 15 in Pocahontas County.

Per the Iowa State Patrol crash reports Thomas Hemmingsen, 65 of Newell was westbound on Hwy 3 approaching the interesting of Hwy 15. At the interesting a minor from Rockwell City was looking to turn and go north on Hwy 15 when their Dodge Dart was struck by Hemmingsen’s Ford F 250. As a result of the incident seven people were injured with five being reported as serious by the Iowa State Patrol.

Three injured in the incident had to be airlifted to hospitals for treatment. Life Flight took two minors from Fonda were both transported to UnityPoint Health – Blank Children’s Hospital and Patricia Bartholomew, 65 of Boone, to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Himmingsen along with Michael McNance, 64 of Lake View, were transported by EMS to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. The minor driving the dart was transported to the hospital in Spencer by EMS.

Both vehicles were seriously damaged and towed from the scene. Emergency teams from Pocahontas and Humboldt County both assisted in responding to the incident.
