Algona, IA – Humboldt High School girls basketball takes their first North Central Conference win of the season on the road.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, the Humboldt Wildcats took the quick trip up Highway 169 to face the Algona Bulldogs. In their second NCC game Humboldt got their first NCC win 47-36.
Humboldt jumped out first to the lead in the first quarter to stake the early 7-6 advantage despite some pressure from Algona. The lead for Humboldt would grow in the second quarter as guards Bae Arnold and Jayda Hoefer combined for eight points in the quarter and 13 at the half when Humboldt led 19-15.
A big take away from Humboldt was they continued to grow their lead in the second half after the last two game for the Wildcats saw shaky play in the final 16 minutes. Forward Kendal Clark got herself going offensively for six points in the third to help grow Humboldt’s lead to 32-24 at the end of three. Six more point for Clark and guard Alexis Hansen in the fourth helped seal the deal despite Algona’s forward A’Lailah Perry dropped eight in the fourth.
As a team Humboldt had one of their better offensive games in the young season. As a team they shot 45.5 percent from the field (3-15 from three point range). The crashed the boards for 28 rebounds and also had 16 steals.
Clark led the Wildcats offensively with 14 points total against the Bulldogs. She also recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 rebounds. Arnold finished with 13 points for Humboldt as the only other double digit scorer.
Algona’s Perry was their only player with double digit scoring with 14 on the evening. Guards Lillian Etherington and Izzy Henry both had eight points to be tied for second on the team in scoring

With the win Humboldt is now 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the North Central Conference. Next for the Wildcats will be a Thursday game on Dec. 17 on the road at Eagle Grove. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 following the junior varsity games.
