Sanders to become next Humboldt Police Chief

Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is bringing in three decades of law enforcement experience as they announce the hiring of their new police chief.

The announcement comes from the city through a press release:

Joel Sanders of St Joseph, Illinois is set to be the next Police Chief for the City of Humboldt. Sanders is currently a Lieutenant with the Urbana Police Department, where he has been for over 20 years of his 30-year career in law enforcement. During his career, Sanders has served as a patrol officer with the cities of LeRoy and Rock Island, where he also served as the school resource officer. Along with his work experience, Sanders also has an associate degree in Criminal Justice, a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and a master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration.

The City of Humboldt received 23 applications for the Police Chief position. On Saturday, December 12th, three candidates were interviewed by three different panels consisting of members of law enforcement, city department heads, and elected officials. All three panels had Sanders as their number one choice. It is anticipated that Sanders will begin his duties in mid-January and is working with the city administrator on the transition.
