Secure mail boxes stand a better chance when snow plows go by

Dakota City, IA – Humboldt County officials remind the community to be sure to secure their mail boxes before the weather turns bad.

During the recent meeting of the Humbouldt County Board of Supervisors on Monday, Nov. 30, Supervisor Bruce Reimers addressed a meeting he had with Engineer Ben Loots. The topic of their visit was people securing their mail boxes, especially along country roads and ditches this winter.

Reimers says that while very little to no snow has fallen now sooner or later it will begin to fall. When that happens the secondary roads department will need to clear roads. If a mail box is not properly secure snow thrown up by a passing plow could carry enough force to knock it down and burry it in the ditch. The supervisor advises that people make sure their mail boxes are properly secure before the weather gets bad.

Loots agreed with Reimers saying it would be a lot easier if everyone made sure their mail boxes were secured properly this winter before the snow comes.
