Humboldt County, IA – The Humboldt County Conservation Board is looking to gather community input on the Reasoner Dam.

On Friday, Jan. 15, a website was published to provide information about the Des Moines River and the Reason Dam in Humboldt. County Conservation Board Director Todd Lee talks with KHBT about the county’s website and efforts surrounding the dam.

Lee says that the supervisors and conversation board are looking to start a dialogue on ways to improve the county’s water resources with an emphasis on the Reasoner Dam. The conservation board director says they ended up coming up with the idea of this website. “A fancy word for it, I guess, would be story map.” He says the story map will serve as the hub for information on the Reasoner Dam project development.

The county conservation board has been working with the DNR on this project for some time now and recently hydrological studies have been done. Lee says they’ve looked at possible changes to the dam and their correlating effect. They main focus has been up stream effects. He says they will publish the results of those test within the coming weeks so the community can see them.

Lee says they are still in the planning phases and are open to any suggestions they can get from the community. He says they are really looking to get some idea from the public. The conservation board wants to know what’s important to the public. “What do they think they would like to see done.” Lee says an “important part” of the story map is that opportunity to get feedback.

As previously reported by KHBT the County Conservation Board requested and was granted $500,000 from the county’s bonding proceeds the Reasoner Dam.

The Conservation Board has published a link to their story map on multiple platforms including the county’s website and the county’s conservation Facebook page.
