Humboldt FD called for a gas fire along Hwy 169

Humboldt, IA – No injuries reported after a fire breaks out at a small personal mechanics shop.

On Tuesday, Jan. 5, the Humboldt Fire Department was called to the scene along Highway 169. Fire Chief Jim Gronbach provides the details of the fire to KHBT.

He says that it was a small personal shop for car work to be done. The workers inside had begun to work on the gas tank of a vehicle. The contents of the tank had been emptied into a few five gallon buckets. The fire started because someone had lit a cigarette igniting the gas and the catching the building on fire.

The building in question is the old M&M Redemption center near Carquest Auto Parts and 7th Avenue North. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
