Little Rock, AR – Corn Belt Power Cooperative’s regional transmission organization is issuing an emergency electric power alert.
On Sunday, February 14, Southwest Power Pool declared an Energy Emergency Alert Level One due to the extreme cold conditions. An EEA 1 signals that SPP foresees or is experience conditions where all available resources are scheduled to meet firm load obligation and that they may be unable to sustain its required contingency reserves.
The declaration of conservative operations signaled to SPP’s member company utility operators to operate conservatively to mitigate the risk of worsening conditions.
As a result Corn Belt Power in Humboldt, along with the rest of the local regions, is being asked to voluntarily conserve power. Corn Belt Power asks for help by turning thermostats to 68 degrees and covering drafty windows. The use of large appliances like clothes washer and driers along with ovens should also be limited.
The EEA 1 went into effect at midnight on February 15 and will last over the next 48 hours.
