Humboldt County to get local fire departments radio funds quickly

Dakota City, IA – The local area fire departments are looking to receive their county bond funds for their new radio equipment.

On Monday, February 8, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisor heard from Scott Thompson with the Humboldt County Firemen’s Association. This was not a scheduled agenda item but rather he spoke during the open forum.

Thompson says that the fire departments from around the county are still waiting on their money from the county’s bonding proceeds to fund the new radio equipment. As previously reported the equipment has been purchased and the fire departments are using both the county funds and grants to fund the radios and pagers.

The supervisors told Thompson they thought they were waiting on a final total before having the auditor’s office send out the funds. The money is already in the county account and they were not trying to withhold the promised assistance.

Thompson says that when they met a month ago on January 11 the amount he provided was the final correct amount. The total amount is for $218,146.60.

The supervisors thanked Thompson for the clarification and said they would have hand written checks addressed to the cities made out. Printed checks would take two weeks to develop and the board wanted to get them to their fire departments sooner.
