Humboldt girls big second half leads to win over IFA

Iowa Falls, IA – Humboldt High School girls basketball uses a big second half to push through for a big conference road win.

On Tuesday, February 9 the Wildcats made the trip to Iowa Falls to face the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets. The final score was 64-48 in the victory for Humboldt in this North Central Conference showdown.

The first quarter was locked even as IFA guard Jenny Wibholm had nine points. Despite her efforts the score was locked at eleven apiece at the end of one.

The second quarter didn’t change the back and forth design of the game. Cadet guard Marlee Lancaster put on six of her eight points in the period as her team took the 26-24 halftime lead.

Humboldt changed the story in the third quarter as forward Kendal Clark got 10 points and guard Alexis Hansengot eight points  in the period. The Wildcats grabbed the lead 47-35 after three.

Iowa Falls-Alden attempt a comeback in the fourth quarter as forward Ella Sharar got all of her 10 points in the quarter. The Wildcats didn’t bend and ultimately won 64-48.

As a team Humboldt shot 51 percent from the field and 7-17 from three points range. They pulled in 26 rebounds, had eleven assists and nine steals.

Carlk finished the night with 20 points on 8-13 shooting. Hansen finished with 17 points off the bench on 6-11 shooting (2-5 three pointers).

Iowa Falls-Alden shot 36.2 percent from the field as a team including 41.7 percent from three point range. They had 31 rebounds and 12 assists. They committed 17 turnovers.

Wibholm ended the outing with 12 points on 5-13 shooing (2-6 three pointers). She also had a double-double with eleven rebounds. Sharar’s 10 points were second on the team on 3-8 shooting and a 2-5 from behind the arch.
