Humboldt Wildcats at the 2021 Drake Relays recap

Des Moines, IA – Humboldt High School track and field athletes enjoy a day on the blue oval and see a new school record set.

On Thursday, April 23, Humboldt track participated in seven events down in Des Moines at the Drake Relays. They competed in five boys’ events and two girls’.

Quinton Orr was the first one of for the blue and gold as he ran in the 3200 meter run. With a time of 9:12.69 he shattered a 35-year-old Humboldt High School record of 9:27 held by Nick Van Langen. This placed him second in the event at the Drake Relays.

In the shuttle hurdle relay the Humboldt boys’ ran a team of Jordan Coon, Troy Gerjets, Aiden Christensen and Caden Matson. They finished 15th with a time of 1:05.14.

In girls’ discus Humboldt’s Kendal Clark threw and finished third. Her top throw was 128-09.

The Humboldt boys’ participated in the 1600 meter distance medley relay with a team of Matson, Cale Hundertmark, Eric Wittrock and Orr. They finished 14th in this event with a time of 3:40.71.

Matson also represented the Wildcats in the 110 meter high hurdles event. He finished 24th with a time of 15.93.

Kendal Clark threw for Humboldt in the girls’ shot put. With a top throw of  37-00.75 she placed eleventh.

The final event for Humboldt was Quinton Orr running in the 1600 meter run. He recorded a time of 4:36.58 which placed him 19th.

The Drake Relays are hosted at Drake University in Des Moines every year. It features the best track and field talent from all across the state of Iowa.
