Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is looking at this summer to make some changes to the intersection of Highway 169 and Wildcat Road.

As previously reported, this intersection has been in discussion with city officials for some time. The city has wanted to make safety improvements but because it is on the right-of-way of the Iowa Department of Transportation they needed state permission.

City Administrator Travis Goekden reports that they have received written permission to make the desired changes. The north and south facing stop signs will be replaced with LED blinking 48 inch signs on both the east and west sides of the road.

The cross walks will be a “cross block” pattern to enhance their visibility to motorists. The city plans to go with a method of inserting plastic cross blocks into the road by grinding the area out in the pavement. This method makes the cross walk last much longer versus paint where it will need to be repainted each spring.

The city administrator says the city does not have a contractor or start day for this project but the plan is to do it during the summer months to avoid disrupting school traffic.
