Humboldt softball takes care of business against Manson-NW Webster

Humboldt, IA – On Thursday, May 27, Humboldt High School softball beat Manson-NW Webster 12-2 in five innings at home.

Humboldt started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. First base Kendal Clark led the frame off with a double and came around to score on a single by short stop Jori Hajek.  Pitcher Reagan Lee drew a walk before her courtesy runner, Jennika Beach, and Hajek would come to score on a single by center fielder Alexis Hansen who scored on a single by second base Addie Thompson.

The second inning was scoreless before Humboldt added one more as Beach scored on a ground out by Catcher Elsie Hubbell. Score at this point was 5-0.

The Wildcats would bat around in the fourth inning to add four more runs. Scoring was third base Macey Varangkouhn, Clark, Hajek and Beach.

Manson-NW Webster got the bases loaded in the top of the fifth with no body out. The would get two runs scored by pitcher Delaney Marine and catcher Rylee Quade.

Humboldt would force run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning. Clark homered in herself and left fielder Ashlee Wergeland. Beach would score her fourth run to end the game on a single by Elsie Hubbell.  Final score of 12-2.

Humboldt’s Reagan Lee was the winner pitcher. She pitched all five innings, giving up two hits, no walks and two earned runs. She had one strikeout.

Manson’s Delaney Marine was the losing pitcher. She pitched four-and-two-thirds innings, giving up five earned runs, four walks and seven hits.

Hansen led Humboldt, going 3-3 from the plate with four RBIs. Clark went 3-4 from the plate with two RBIs.

Quade and Pearson both were 1-2 for Manson-NW Webster. Ally Jaeschke and Chloe Peterson both had RBIs for the Cougars.

Humboldt has improved their record to 2-0 this season. Alexis Hansen was named the Player of the Game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.

The Wildcats’ next game will be Friday, May 28, on the road against Newell-Fonda. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following the JV game.
