Humboldt, IA -The Humboldt Wildcats defeated the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets 38-28 on Friday night to improve to 3-0 on the season. E-L-C jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Wildcats got on the board with this score from Caden Matson to Jacob Heier late in the first half.

On the ensuing ELC possesion Caden Matson intercepted a long pass and he did the rest.

The game was tied at 14 at halftime and the Wildcats took the lead 17-14 on a Trevor Beach field goal midway through the 3rd quarter. Estherville would respond by taking the lead late in the 3rd quarter 21-17, but that is the last lead they had as the Wildcats took over the game as Matson ran for another two touchdowns and passed another to Jacob Heier, who was the Subway Player of the Game. The Wildcats defense stood tall forcing a turnover when Tracen Troyer intercepted ELC Quarterback Ryan Shillitz and returned it to the 12 yard line. Matson would finish the night with 5 total touchdowns.

Wildcats Head Coach Derrick Elman says he’s proud of his team.

Next up for Humboldt is a road tilt at Boone on Friday.
