Humboldt Wastewater Treatment Plant project moving forward

Humboldt, IA – There was a public hearing at Monday’s Humboldt City Council Meeting regarding the Humboldt Wastewater Treatment Plant Project. The project includes implementing nutrient removal, increasing treatment capacity to 2040 design loads, replacing end of life equipment at the treatment plant, replacing the raw pumps at the Main Lift Station and implementing upgrades to the existing control system.

Humboldt City Clerk Gloria Christensen outlined the total cost of the project and how it will be paid for.

Christensen said during the hearing that the Iowa DNR conducted an environmental review of the project and found that there is no reason to believe the project will have a significant environmental impact. Construction on the Humboldt Wastewater Treatment Improvement Project is estimated to begin in April or May of 2022.
