Reasner Dam Project public meeting draws large crowd

Humboldt, IA – Over 200 people showed up Thursday to the public meeting on the Reasner Dam Project held  by Humboldt County Conservation at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds. Stantec, the engineering firm leading the project presented 3 alternatives and a 4th no action alternative to the public.

Humboldt County Conservation Board President Bob Rasmussen says Alternative 1, which is the Dam rehabilitation and Rock Ramp seems to be the most popular option, it being the only option where bringing back boating is an option.

Alternative 1 is the most expensive option, costing an estimated 15.29 million while alternative 2, the Dam Modification and Rock Ramp has an estimated price of 3.4 million and dam Removal and River Restoration is estimated at 2.97 million.

Rasmussen has been on Conservation Board for over 15 years and says the time is right to get something done, adding that turning it back to Lake Nakomis would for be big for the community and local economy.
