Humboldt advances to State Quarterfinals for 3rd time in school history

Humboldt, IA -The Humboldt Wildcats football team is off to the 3A State quarterfinals for the first time since 2006 and just the 3rd time in school history after the Wildcats took care of Hampton Dumont-CAL 47-6 at home at Mason Maach Field on Friday night in the first round of the playoffs.

Caden Matson had another masterful performance at quarterback for the Wildcats completing 25 of 31 passes for 382 yards and 5 passing touchdowns, adding 61 rushing yards and a touchdown. Will Orness had 10 receptions for 176 yards, Corey Dettmann had 6  receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown and Jacob Heier had 6 receptions for 52 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tanner Mckimmey had two rushing touchdown for the Wildcats, while Sophomore Lance Coon had the Dear Mama play of the game with this touchdown run.

On defense Will Orness and Corey Dettmann each had an interception.

Humboldt Head Coach Derrick Elman is happy with the win but knows bigger challenges lie ahead.

Next up for the Wildcats is a home match-up with Independence in the state quarterfinals on Friday at 7.
