Humboldt girls basketball falls to Gilbert, faces Pocahontas tonight

Humboldt, IA -The Humboldt girls basketball team opened up the season Monday night with a 79-55 loss to the Gilbert Tigers at the Humboldt High School Gym.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Freshman Morgan Mann, who had 20 points in her high school debut including this big 3 point shot late in the first half to get Humboldt within 4 points.

Gilbert then went on a mini run to extend the lead to 39-31 tigers at the half. The second half the Tigers pulled away, lead by Drake University Commit Ava Hawthorne who lead all scorers with 23 points.

In the post-game show, Humboldt Head Coach Rodd Mooney commented on his team’s efforts and the play of freshman Morgan Mann, who earned player of the game honors.

Humboldt is back in action tonight as they travel to face Pocahontas Area at 7:15, live coverage will be on 97.7 the Bolt and 97.7 the Bolt.com starting at around 7:00.
