Humboldt group leading efforts to resettle Afghan refugees to Humboldt

Humboldt, IA -An effort to resettle Afghan Refugee families to Humboldt is currently in the brainstorming stage. The Humboldt Good Neighbors Group held a meeting on Thursday, November 18th to discuss the idea called the Humboldt New Neighbor Program. Humboldt Good Neighbors Co-Chair Joe Hadar says that bringing Refugees to Humboldt could be a positive for the Humboldt Community.

Hadar says the Sponsor Circles will be members of the community that will help the refugees find employment, housing, transportation and be of social support for the refugees.

Jim Sayers is helping to lead the New Neighbor Program efforts and says the idea comes from past success resettling refugee families to Humboldt.

The next steps in the process are to  create some official resolutions that can be presented to elected officials and visiting with organizations in Humboldt County that could help with the process and find resources.
