Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Compensation Board recently made a recommendation to increase the salary of Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger by 18%, and 6% for elected officials. At Monday’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting, there was discussion and action taken on the Board’s recommendations. Supervisor Rick Pedersen made a motion to cut the increases by %50 to a 9% increase for Sheriff Kruger and 3% for elected officials.
After some discussion, all three Board of Supervisors present voted no on the 50% decrease from the Compensation Board’s recommendation, and instead, Supervisor Sandy Loney made a motion to decrease the Compensation Board’s recommendation by 33%. The increase in wages for elected officials are approximately 4.02% and Sheriff Kruger’s raise was listed as 12.8%.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Bruce Reimers explains what’s next in the process.
The public hearing is at 8:45 on February 28, at the Humboldt County Courthouse Board of Supervisors room. If the salary increases pass, they will be enacted on July 1st.
