Humboldt Wildcats Boys’ Soccer edges Storm Lake 5-4 in OT

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats Boys’ Soccer team won 5-4 in overtime in a back-and-forth affair against the Storm Lake Tornadoes yesterday. The Wildcats led 3-1 at halftime before the Tornadoes came roaring back to tie the game at four goals apiece to force overtime. The Wildcats would end up on the winning side after a Nolan Gustafson (So.) corner kick was deflected by Christian Ramirez (So.) and found the head of Carter Westre (Fr.) who sent the ball past the goalkeeper to send the Wildcats to their sixth straight victory to start the 2022 season.

Ramirez led the scoring for the Wildcats with five points (two goals and an assist).  Isaiah Kahl (Sr.) registered two goals and Westre had the game-winner.

Fernando Reyes (Sr.) led the scoring for the Tornadoes with two goals. Jose Oropeza (So.) and Rodolfo Zavala (Sr.) each tacked on a goal as well.

The Wildcats remain perfect on the 2022 season with a record of 6-0 (5-0 NCC). The boys next match is on Thursday at home against the Bellmond- Klemme Broncos after the conclusion of the girls game with a start time of approximately 6:00 p.m.
