Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service in Des Moines has placed portions of northern, western, and central Iowa under a Winter Weather Advisory that came into effect this morning at 6:00 a.m. and will last until 6:00 p.m. Alexis Jimenez with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says the winter weather will affect our area later today.

Jimenez gives the timeline where driving conditions will start to deteriorate.

Once the winter weather clears out, bitter windchill will descend upon the area.

The NWS says to slow down and use caution while traveling and that most vehicle crashes occur in lighter amounts of snow and ice. They say to plan on extra time to reach your destination safely Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
