Fort Dodge PD investigating shooting of 17-year-old

Fort Dodge, IA – The Fort Dodge Police Department is investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old male Friday night. Details were released in the following press release.

“On Friday, Jan. 6, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received multiple calls of shots fired in the area of 1800 Block of 4th Ave S. Callers advised that they had heard multiple shots being fired.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a 17‐year‐old male that had sustained a gunshot to his abdominal area. Officers rendered aid to the juvenile male until Fort Dodge Fire arrived on scene and transported the male to Unity Point‐Trinity Regional Medical Center for
further treatment. The injury sustained by the juvenile male is not believed to be life threatening.

Upon further investigation from the patrol officers of the Fort Dodge Police Department, officers located witnesses in the area as well as physical evidence that was collected. Members of the Criminal Investigation Division were called in to assist with the investigation. This investigation is ongoing, and we will provide updates as they become available.

Officers and investigators are continuing to follow up on this incident. We encourage anyone who may have seen or heard anything around this area at this time to contact the police department. With all investigations, any video evidence is essential to resolving an incident and we encourage citizens in this area to contact the police department with video footage they may have. Information may also be submitted anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
