Dakota City, IA – Humboldt High School will have new faces leading the school in the fall for the 2023-24 school year.

At Monday’s school board meeting, Travis Sprague was named as the new principal for Humboldt, replacing the outgoing Dr. Paul Numedahl. Sprague is the current associate principal at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, a position he has held since April of last year.

The position of assistant principal at Humboldt High School will go to Jessica Goodenow, who fills a vacancy left by Abby Horbach. Goodenow has been serving as the principal and daycare director at Gilmore City-Bradgate Elementary School since 2019. Goodenow says the opportunity to help students more urgently is what drew her to the High school level.

Humboldt Community School District Superintendent Jim Murray says he believes the new faces of leadership will be good for the school.

Both Sprague and Goodenow will assume their roles at the start of the new school year.
