Humboldt Boys Soccer edges Webster 3-2 in season opener

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats boys soccer team began their 2023 season as defending conference champions in dramatic fashion, edging rival Webster City 3-2.

Scoring for the Wildcats were Antonio Xum, Christhian Ramirez and Will Orness with the game-winner in a mob in front of the Webster City goal, as Orness tapped in the corner kick delivered by Carter Westre with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Xum also assisted on the second goal.

Humboldt had led 1-0 then 2-1 but would be tied up at 2 with the Lynx in the second half before Orness knocked through the deciding goal. Humboldt, with the win improves to 1-0 on the young season.

Their next match on Thursday has been postponed to Apr. 21 along with the girls match that day due to the lack of officials.
