Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service says a Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 1:00 p.m. CDT today until 8:00 p.m. CDT tonight for critical fire weather conditions for much of central and northern Iowa. A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued.
This Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening. A combination of low humidity values, strong winds and dry fuels will result in critical fire conditions across portions of central, western and northern Iowa this afternoon and Thursday afternoon. Winds will be southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 25 to 35 mph. Humidity will be dropping to around 25 percent. The NWS says any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and uncontrollably. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
