Humboldt downs Webster City 4-3, clinches share of 2023 NCC title

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats defeated the Webster City Lynx 4-3 to clinch a share of the NCC title for the first time since 2016 at Humboldt High School’s baseball field Friday night.

Ty Gargano went the distance on the mound with seven innings pitched, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits with now walks, two strikeouts and two hit batters.

Mason Van Pelt recorded a 2-2 night with a triple and two RBIs and Josh Thurm’s sac fly gave the Cats the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth.

With the win, Humboldt is 19-3 (11-0 NCC) and can win the NCC outright with a win at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Monday. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m. with coverage on KHBT starting at 7:20 p.m.
