NWS says possible severe weather to move in tonight, excessive heat today

(KHBT) – The National Weather Service says severe storms are possible today and into Wednesday for the State of Iowa, with the impact for the KHBT area listed as primarily this evening into the overnight hours.

The NWS currently forecasts a level two out of five slight risk for our area in the evening to overnight hours. The main threats from the severe weather will include damaging wind gusts and large hail, with storms lingering into Wednesday. Current model simulations have the severe weather at 7:00 p.m. around a line from Fairmount, Minnesota to Spencer, Iowa to Sioux City, Iowa; with the direction moving to the southwest and reaching the I-35 corridor by midnight. Additionally, the heat index is expected to reach 95 to 100 degrees today.
