Des Moines, IA – Land that used to operate as an egg farm north of Fort Dodge has been bought by farmer-owned cooperative Landus, which announced plans to build a grain and agronomy facility there.

The purchase of the former Sparboe Companies site on U.S. Highway 169 five miles north of Fort Dodge was announced Thursday.

Matt Carstens, President and Chief Executive Officer of Landus, said in a written statement, “The decision to invest here was driven entirely by feedback from the farmers in that region who have been demanding more. We have heard them, and we are excited to bring our Landus offerings to this area and continue to put our farmer-owners at the center of everything we do.”

The news release did not go into detail on what will be included in the grain and agronomy facility or how many people will work there.

Landus, based in Des Moines, has 56 locations, including two facilities in Gowrie. Other locations in the area are in Early, Emmetsburg, Farnhamville, Lake City, Rockwell City, and Sac City.
