Webster Co., IA – The Humboldt County community is reeling after a car accident that took the life of a Humboldt Middle School student Wednesday.

In a two-vehicle accident just before 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22 to the northeast of Badger near Union Ave. and 110th St., Life Flight was called to the scene to take a passenger who was injured in the accident to the hospital. A 13-year-old from Hardy and Humboldt Middle School student, Kyle Hilbert, was killed in the accident.

In a letter sent by email from Humboldt Community School District Superintendent Jim Murray obtained by KHBT, the district confirmed the passing of their seventh-grade student and says there will be multiple counselors and pertinent service providers available on Monday at the middle school.

According to the Iowa State Patroloffice in Fort Dodge, the accident involved a 2014 Ram 1500 pickup operated by 38-year-old Logan Christensen of Eagle Grove and a 2014 model Toyota Camry driven by 33-year-old Sara Sanga of Hardy. Reportedly, the Christensen pickup was traveling westbound on 110th St. when he failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the northbound Camry in the passenger side driven by Sanga. Both vehicles entered the northwest ditch. 13-year-old Kyle Hilbert of Hardy was a passenger in Sanga’s car when he was killed. Sanga was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for treatment of her injuries. Christensen and a passenger, 21-year-old Ryleith Bienermann of Waverly were both transported by ambulance to Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Paul Gardner says the accident remains under investigation.
