Dakota City man charged with sexual assault involving minor

Dakota City, IA – A Dakota City man has been arrested in a case of sexual assault involving a minor.

According to a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Garrett Oberhelman of Dakota City turned himself in to the Humboldt County Jail on Feb. 7 and was booked under a charge of second degree sexual assault, a Class B Felony.

Oberhelman’s arrest stems from a report taken on Dec. 18 of last year that a female child under the age of 12 was sexually assaulted at a residence in Dakota City. He was able to post $25,000 cash bond and was released with a future court date. No other details have been provided involving the case.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Allen Child Protection Center in Waterloo, the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, and Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
