Humboldt, IA – Junk Days for the city of Humboldt will look much different this year as the city will shift from curbside pickups to a centralized location for drop-offs at the city’s recycling center.
City Administrator Cole Bockelmann says a central location is how other cities he has researched conduct junk days and says safety and costs were the main reasons behind the change.
A cost analysis provided by Bockelmann estimates the city will see a savings of $5,436.44 as the time predicted for pickup is reduced from one and a half weeks to 33 hours. City Junk days would begin Monday, April 29; Wednesday, May 1; and Friday, May 3. Monday and Friday would operate under the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
