(KHBT) – A Wind Advisory and Red Flag Warning are in effect for our area until 6:00 p.m. CST tonight.

For the Wind Advisory: Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected for much of central Iowa. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

For the Red Flag Warning: South to southwest winds 20 to 30 mph, with gusts 30 to 45 mph at times. Humidity will be as low as 20 to 35 percent during the afternoon. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning should be postponed to a more suitable day. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
