Humboldt, IA – The resurfacing project of a vital artery of the City of Humboldt gets underway Monday.

Sumner Avenue in Humboldt will undergo a three phase resurfacing project that is expected to last through the majority of the summer. Humboldt City Administrator Cole Bockelmann says the project will not be a total reconstruction.

The City of Humboldt was awarded grant funding through a Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) in the amount of approximately $1 million of the $1.4 million in costs. The city’s matching portion comes from the local option sales tax. Phase one begins Monday.

For residents living along that stretch of Sumner Avenue, he says residents will have the ability to navigate the affected area.
