Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Conservation Board passed a motion for R.I.V.E.R. Development, Inc. to purchase the Reasoner Dam from the Humboldt County. The motion was put forward by Board member Will Spellmeyer during a special session for the Conservation Board at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The county would not be using any taxpayer dollars and would only be a sponsor for grant applications to help secure funding for maintenance of the Reasoner Dam. President of R.I.V.E.R. Development, Inc. Deb Harklau.

The River Development Group will use possible grant money and fundraising efforts to help raise money for the costs associated with the dam. It was stated during the session that if R.I.V.E.R. Development, Inc. were to disband years down the road, ownership would not revert to the county, but instead go to the DNR. Tuesday’s special session was only the first step of the process for the group to gain ownership of the Reasoner Dam, as the next steps include the item going before the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors before a public hearing being scheduled, followed by a resolution to sell by the Board of Supervisors.
