Two-vehicle accident in Humboldt County leaves two dead and one injured Saturday

Humboldt Co., IA – A two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Humboldt County left two people dead and one injured.

According to the Iowa State Patrol’s minimal crash report, the accident occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. at the intersection of 170th St. and Michigan Ave. 43-year-old Theodore Joesph Prenger and 56-year-old Teresa Ann Prenger, both of Dakota City, were traveling southbound on Michigan Ave. in a 2021 Polaris Utility Vehicle when they failed to stop and yield the right of way. They were struck by a 2004 Ford F-250 driven by 63-year-old Terry Dean George of Hardy on the passenger side.

Both Theodore and Teresa Prenger passed away from injuries sustained in the accident and George was injured and transported to Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion by a private vehicle. The Prenger’s were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny by the Mason-Lindhart Funeral and Cremation Service. The Iowa State Patrol says they have notified the families of the deceased and state that the accident remains under investigation.

One of the deceased, Theodore Prenger, was serving on Dakota City’s City Council at the time of the accident.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted on scene by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the Humboldt Fire Department, and Humboldt EMS.
