Dakota City, IA – Discussion on the details of a School Resource Officer for the Humboldt Community School District provided by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was held at Monday’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisors session.

Superintendent of Humboldt Schools Jim Murray shared his proposal in front of the board.

With Murray’s proposal of 75% of the position covered by Humboldt Schools, the county would be on the hook for approximately $30,000 of the salary for the position with the Sheriff’s Office.

That was Humboldt County Supervisor Rick Pedersen on reasons for the proposed 75%-25% split between the school district and the county. Murray says the 75% percent that would be paid by the district should cover the school year.

Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger appeared by telephone at the session and says he has interest in the department for the position.

The Sheriff’s Office will be looking to also add a new deputy in conjunction with moving a current deputy into the SRO position. Both the county and schools are now drafting up paperwork on a 28 E Agreement between the two entities for the position.
