Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt baseball and softball teams hosted the Spencer Tigers in non-conference play Wednesday night, with baseball picking up a 9-6 win and softball falling 12-7.
In baseball, Humboldt fell behind 2-0 with one run in the first and second innings by Spencer. The Wildcats would score in the bottom of the third inning, when senior Evan Hatcher came to the plate.
Following Hatcher’s game-tying two RBI double was senior Corey Dettmann.
Dettmann’s go ahead RBI single put the Wildcats up 3-2. The Tigers would tie the game on a wild pitch in the fifth with Humboldt scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning to retake a 5-3 lead. The sixth inning saw Humboldt score four insurance runs that was capped off by senior Riley Sorenson.
The Tigers would score three runs in the seventh inning and had the bases loaded as freshman Chase Hansen would close the game.
Humboldt Head Coach Jason Thurm says it was a much needed win to end the week.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 16-7 and host the Boone Toreadors on Monday.
In softball, the Wildcats fell 12-7 to the Spencer Tigers. Full game details are pending once stats are received.
The Wildcats are 11-16 and will host the Emmetsburg E-Hawks on Friday.
