Hamilton Co., IA – A Des Moines is in custody on a charge related to a multi-county pursuit in Humboldt and Pocahontas Counties.
According to a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Daniel Ray Coonfield was arrested on unrelated charges to the pursuit on August 17 in Hamilton County and has been transferred to the Humboldt County Jail and is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. The charge he faces in Humboldt County is Eluding, a class C felony.
The charges against Coonfield stem from August 6, when he allegedly was behind the wheel of a flatbed pickup that was observed by a Humboldt County deputy speeding and driving recklessly through Humboldt on HWY 3. When Coonfield failed to stop, it led to a pursuit which went into Pocahontas County which ended near the intersection of HWY 3 and N-65 (290th Ave) when Coonfield drove through several farm fields trying to avoid capture. The vehicle was recovered stuck in a dredge ditch, but Coonfield was not located.
Through the investigation, law enforcement learned that the truck had been reported stolen that morning near Collins and evidence found inside the stolen truck and through a joint investigation involving the Story County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Coonfield, with the arrest warrant granted on August 9 in Humboldt County.
Charges are pending in Story County relating to the stolen truck and in Pocahontas County relating to the damage done to the farm fields.
