(NWS) – The National Weather Service says a heat advisory will be in effect on Sunday and Monday for the entirety of the KHBT listening area.
Heat index values of up to 110 degrees are expected for the area over the next few days as highs reach the 90s today. The advisory is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday and on Monday.
The NWS says that the hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses and offers ways to combat the heat. They advise to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Also, take extra precautions when outside, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing.
You should also try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening and take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce the risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. If you or someone else is experiencing signs of heat stroke, call 911.
