Humboldt Police Chief announces intention to retire

Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt will soon be on the search for a new Police Chief as Humboldt Police Chief Joel Sanders announced his decision to retire from law enforcement. Chief Sanders submitted a letter of his intent to retire at a special session of city council Monday night.

In the letter, the Chief sites wanting to focus on his emotional, spiritual, and physical health and to reconnect with family. The Chief will delay his retirement until at the latest Nov. 5 as the City looks to hire an Interim Chief and address pay gap issues within the department that has caused a high turnover rate for the city.

Sanders has been in the role for four years with the city’s department.
