Dakota City, IA – A Dakota City man wanted on federal charges has been apprehended in Dakota City.

39-year-old Nathan Nickless was apprehended Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:00 p.m., when multiple law enforcement agencies converged on his last known residence, 110 5th St. N in Dakota City. Nickless had been found hiding in an upstairs closet at the residence. He was transferred to the custody of the United States Marshals Service and transported to Sioux City where he’ll held until his initial appearance.

42-year-old Jessica Nelson, of the same residence in Dakota City, was arrested for accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor. Nelson was placed in the Humboldt County Jail and will be held until her initial appearance before the magistrate.

Nickless is wanted on federal charges related to drugs and weapons, as well as state charges related to a pursuit in Pocahontas County in July 2024, where he escaped in a cornfield. Nickless evaded authorities a second time on September 28 after a Humboldt County Deputy on routine patrol attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be driven by Nickless. He failed to stop for the deputy which led law enforcement on a pursuit through Humboldt until the defendant abandoned his vehicle in the south part of town and was able to escape on foot.

Agencies assisting with the investigation were the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, United States Marshal Service, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa State Patrol, and the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office.
