Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats defeated the Charles City Comets 42-0 on Humboldt’s homecoming to win their second district game of the year.

Humboldt got the scoring started on a big play, a 71-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Coen Matson to wide receiver Chase Flaherty late in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead after a Karson Rubel made PAT. Matson and Flaherty would again find the end zone, a 29-yard touchdown pass to give the Wildcats a 14-0 lead halfway through the second quarter after the Rubel made PAT.

After a takeaway on an interception by Humboldt’s junior linebacker Cael Donahe, the Wildcats were set up with great field position to score again. The short drive was capped off on a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Matson. Humboldt would add one more touchdown before the end of the first half, with Mason Van Pelt scoring on a 16-yard run in the closing stages of the second quarter. Rubel’s fourth made PAT gave Humboldt a 28-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Humboldt score twice more, as Cash McIntire found the end zone on a 15-yard rush late in the third quarter and Jaxson Kirchhoff scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 9:02 left in the fourth quarter to give the Wildcats a 42-0 lead after two more made PATs by Rubel, his sixth on the evening.
