(KHBT) – The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) has released the official postseason brackets for football.
The District Champion RPI No. 1 Humboldt Wildcats at 8-1 (5-0 3A-2) will get a familiar foe at Mason Maach Field on Friday, November 1 as they matchup with the No. 15 Clear Lake Lions for a second time this season. The Wildcats won on the road at Lions Field 23-13 during Week 8 to clinch the 3A-2 title. The matchup for Humboldt and Clear Lake is their 77th all-time meeting, with the Lions leading the series 38-36-2. This is the first postseason meeting between Clear Lake and Humboldt since the 2006 State Championship Game, which Humboldt won 27-9.
On the other side of the bracket in the pod is No. 9 Solon who heads to No. 8 Benton Community. Benton shutout defending 3A State Champion Williamsburg in Week 9 to clinch the district title and won over Solon 21-20 earlier this season.
Kickoff on Nov. 1 is at 7:00 p.m. The winners from each First Round game will face off on November 8, the home field determined by the highest ranked RPI team.
