Dakota City, IA – A familiar face in Humboldt is set to become the newest deputy sheriff in the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Officer David Jones of the Humboldt Police Department was formally accepted by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors in a 4-1 vote at Monday’s session to become the 11th member of the county’s law enforcement agency.

Humboldt County Sherriff Dean Kruger.

Supervisor Bruce Reimers says that Jones, a 17-year veteran of law enforcement, would much rather Jones stay in the community than venture elsewhere.

Jones is set to receive a 65 percent salary of Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger and earn two weeks of vacation in benefits with the Sheriff’s Office. Supervisor Sandy Loney was the one dissenting vote, citing a depleted Humboldt Police Department that has had retainage issues as of late.

Jones first date on the job is tentatively set for November 15.
