Humboldt PD tabs Miller as new Chief of Police

Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt announced Tuesday morning that the Humboldt Police Department hired a new Chief of Police to replace current outgoing Chief Joel Sanders, who is retiring.

Chief Jacob Miller of the Albia Police Department is transitioning to the role in Humboldt with an official start date on November 18. Chief Miller has been in the role with the Albia Police Department since July 2023 and before April 2014 through July 2023 as a Police Officer with the Ankeny Police Department.

A 2008 graduate of Indianola High School, Chief Miller attended the University of Phoenix with a major in Criminal Justice Studies, having credits toward a bachelor’s degree. He also served with the United States Coast Guard as a Boatswains Mate 3rd Class, stationed in Duluth, Minnesota and Chatham, Massachusetts from May 2009 to August 2013.

Chief Miller is expected to be introduced formally to the community during the next Humboldt City Council session on November 18.
