Coralville, IA – In the third year of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) officially sanctioning girls’ wrestling as a sport, Humboldt has their first official IGHSAU State Champion in the sport.
Humboldt senior No. 6 Brooklyn Robinson won the Class 1A State Title at 235 pounds in the final match of her high school career by fall over No. 4 Kaylee De Jong of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in 29 seconds at Xtreme Arena in Coralville on Friday night.
The tournament was the third consecutive appearance for Robinson at the State Tournament and her championship finish marked the first time in the sanctioned era that a Humboldt girls’ wrestler had landed on the podium.
The program’s head coach Andy Newell commented on Robinson’s historic win.
Robinson ends her State Championship season at 43-6, the winningest wrestler in program history and the lone wrestler at Humboldt to 100 career wins. She is the first sanctioned IGHSAU champion in program history.
