Humboldt, IA – The couple of March blizzards to affect the area didn’t just put a damper on the weather, but has also forced a local school district to extend its calendar by another few days.
In a social media post Monday morning, the Humboldt Community School District announced the 2024-25 school year will last a bit longer than originally scheduled. The last day of school for the district is now Thursday, May 29. The district is also canceling professional development early dismissals on March 26, April 2, April 9, April 30, and May 7, with the days now being full days of school. The early dismissal on May 14 will remain in place as of now.
The district says by law, students must receive 1,080 hours of instruction and extending the school year is necessary to meet the requirements. Graduation will remain as May 18 at 2 p.m. in Humboldt High School.
