Humboldt, IA – The National Weather Service says conditions this afternoon will lead to an elevated chance for fire weather this afternoon over North Central Iowa until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Winds from the southeast have increased and are averaging 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 to 35 mph. Relative humidity values are forecast to drop to 20 to 25 percent by mid-afternoon as well. This combined with dry vegetation will lead to elevated fire weather conditions this afternoon diminishing early this evening along and north of Highway 20 in north central Iowa.
Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and may become uncontrolled. Burning is discouraged under these conditions. Also, take care to prevent the start of accidental fires when smoking or operating vehicles around dry vegetation.
