Humboldt softball defeats Hampton-Dumont/CAL 6-5

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt softball team wrapped up the week with a 6-5 win over Hampton-Dumont/CAL in North Central Conference (NCC) play Friday night at Humboldt High School.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Charlee Morton RBI double. The Wildcats would score four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead on an error, a wild pitch and RBI singles by Sadie Hubbell and Adalee Nolting. The Cats would add another run in the fourth after a one out triple by Landry Lash on a sacrifice fly for an RBI by Gracie Lyon to bring home Lash.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL would score twice in the fifth inning on an error and a wild pitch to cut the Humboldt lead to 2 and tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the sixth inning on an error and a RBI single by Mallory Rieken. Humboldt would retake the 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on another wild pitch that brought Lyon home to score. The Bulldogs would go down in order in the seventh to give Humboldt the one run victory.

Adalee Nolting pitched a complete game of seven innings five unearned runs on seven hits with three walks, one hit batter and four strikeouts, earning the win. Offensively, Sadie Hubbell had a 2-3 night with an RBI and Landry Lash was 2-3 with a triple and a run scored. Nolting and Lyon each had RBIs.

With the win, Humboldt improves to 5-4 (3-3 NCC) and heads to Webster City on Monday for a chance at a season series sweep of the Lynx. Humboldt won the first game between the two earlier this season 13-5.
