Boone, IA – It was a heartbreaker for the Humboldt Wildcats baseball team as they fell 3-2 in 11 innings to the Boone Toreadors.
In an instant classic at Memorial Park in Boone, the Wildcats and Toreadors would both score a run in the second inning and would remain tied at 1-1 in the game until the 11th inning. Humboldt senior Mason Van Pelt delivered a go-ahead RBI single to give the Wildcats the 2-1 lead the top of the 11th. In the bottom of the 11th, Boone was down to their final out with the tying run at second. Boone’s Reid Carr hit a groundball to second that would have been the final out of the game, but instead was misplayed, allowing the tying run to come home on the error to tie the game at 2-2. The next batter, Boone’s Dylan England delivered a walk-off RBI single to give Boone the win and their first state appearance since 2019.
Humboldt ends their incredible substate run at 27-7.
